About the position
The mission of University Student Health Services is to provide quality outpatient medical care and public health services, which includes health education programming that empowers students to become full participants in their health care. USHS attends to the physical health needs of more than 30,000 diverse undergraduate and graduate/professional students on the Monroe Park and Medical campuses by providing high quality primary care services including allergy shots, blood and/or body fluid exposures, immunizations, mental health and ADHD care, nutrition consultations, sexual health and wellness, on-call phone consultation, and travel health care. USHS also houses an on-site pharmacy at its Monroe Park campus clinic and laboratory services on both campuses. USHS is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking to fill the role of Director of University Student Health Services (USHS). The Director of University Student Health Services, reporting to the Associate Vice Provost for Student Affairs, provides strategic leadership, vision and direction for student health services. The director works closely with professional and allied health schools on the Medical campus.
The Director of University Student Health Services manages the day-to-day operations of the campus health center working in close collaboration with internal and external departments including but not limited to athletics/athletic trainers; the campus wellness program; university counseling services, residential life and housing, and local and regional health care providers and institutions. The director prepares and maintains detailed and comprehensive reports, ensures patient record compliance, develops programs as appropriate, oversees accreditation, maintains budgetary authority and oversight, maintains all compliance reporting including state immunization reports, supervises a diverse professional staff, leads quality improvement initiatives, manages crises as needed, maintains health care risk management, and performs other duties as assigned. The director serves as the chief student health expert for the university and coordinates the campus public health response team. The director is also an active member of the Division of Student Affairs leadership team (SALT).
