Director, university student commons and activities
About the Role
The University Student Commons & Activities (the Commons) mission is to support student development and build community through various programs and services, including large-scale events such as Weeks of Welcome, Homecoming, Spring Fest, etc. The Director is responsible for all facets of the Commons (multiple facilities and programs that foster student development and civic engagement) and reports directly to the Associate Vice Provost for Student Affairs. The Director directly oversees a diverse team and supervises Associate Directors, Assistant Directors, and an Office Manager. The Director provides strategic leadership to advance the mission, vision, and values of the Commons, including the oversight for personnel needs, staffing, programming, facility management, fiscal responsibility, policy development, and long-range planning. The Director will develop program learning outcomes and an assessment plan and ensure they are aligned with Division of Student Affairs strategic goals, and facilitating collaboration and partnerships with a variety of stakeholders beyond Student Affairs, including campus events, new student orientation, admissions, academic scheduling, business services, facilities management, and a variety of community partners. The Director oversees various functions related to managing of over 500 student organizations, space management, and capital projects (including identified future construction of a new student commons). The Director develops high-impact practices to meet the needs of our diverse student population, faculty, and staff and is a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team whilst supporting the Division of Student Affairs and/or University committees as necessary.
