Director, Talent Strategy

Tanya Giscombe serves as the director for the talent strategy team. Tanya has more than 18 years of diverse human resources experience with particular emphasis in talent management and recruitment. Tanya’s background is rich in finding exceptional talent and implementing strategic talent management solutions for esteemed national/global corporate manufacturing organizations as well as state government.

Prior to joining VCU, Tanya served as HR business partner with Virginia Department of Emergency Management. While there, she successfully managed the talent management program and implemented a comprehensive talent strategy that aligned with the agency’s business objectives and encouraged a highly engaged and valued workforce.

Tanya-Lee holds a master’s degree in public administration with a minor in human resources management from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BS in political science from Virginia State University. She is SHRM-CP certified and an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as well as College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA).

Talent strategy recruiter

Emily Canada serves as the talent strategy recruiter for VCU HR’s Executive Search Team. Emily is a results oriented recruiter with four years in talent acquisition supporting start-ups, campus, corporate, and agency staffing roles across a broad range of industries. Industries supported include banking, mortgage, insurance, automotive, and technology. Emily has had great success in creating effective recruiting strategies, creating solid recruitment pipelines and fostering key relationships.

Prior to joining VCU, Emily served as a Technical Sourcing Recruiter for Amazon Ads; sourcing and hiring backend software engineers in the US, India, and Canada. She has also worked as a Corporate Recruiter for CapCenter, a reputable licensed mortgage lender and real estate broker and served as a Corporate Recruiter at Capital One, hiring business analyst interns from HBCUs across the country to enhance the campus programs.

These experiences shaped her passion for developing robust strategic recruitment plans, facilitating full-cycle recruitment processes, enhancing candidate experiences, and sourcing diverse talent.

Emily holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, with a minor in Biology from Longwood University.
