Annual Service Recognition Celebration
The Annual Service Recognition Celebration takes place in April each year, and celebrates employees who reached a service milestone between January 1 and December 31 of the previous year.
Your Celebration, Your Voice
VCU HR is committed to providing a meaningful service recognition celebration experience to all employees - and that means including employee feedback in our process. Starting in 2024, the Service Recognition Celebration and related service milestone acknowledgements were updated to reflect the employee preferences articulated in a survey conducted October - November 2023.
The survey was conducted by VCU HR. The Service Recognition Celebration Task Force assisted in initiating the survey, reviewing results and providing recommendations. These recommendations included:
- Increase the visibility of senior leadership during the Service Recognition Celebration
- Enhancing engagement activities at the Service Recognition Celebration
- Providing options for service recognition gifts at the 5, 10 and 15 year milestones
By incorporating employee feedback, we hope to enhance the culture of care and appreciation felt by those celebrating a service recognition milestone.
Eligibility
Service awards eligibility is calculated from award eligible service only and may not reflect an individual's total state service. For example:
- Any paid service (including hourly service) at VCU and the VCU Health System is included.
- Service earned at other state agencies/higher education institutions is not included.
- Adjunct service counts towards service award eligibility. The employing department must notify HR of the eligible service of adjunct employees.

The 2024 Service Recognition Celebration was held on April 18, 2024 and recognized VCU and VCU Health employees achieving milestones in 5-year increments between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023.
