Governor's Honor Awards

The Governor’s Awards program publicly recognizes outstanding employees for their hard work and dedication to the Commonwealth.  Agencies nominate employees to be honored at a ceremony hosted by the Governor.

Who is eligible for consideration? Full-time and part time classified employees, full-time and part-time University and Academic Professionals, and wage employees may be nominated for the awards. Faculty in teaching positions are not eligible. Individuals or group leaders may request that their direct supervisor review their accomplishments to determine if they meet award criteria. For specific questions about award criteria, please contact rewrdrec@vcu.edu.

VCU selects one nominee in each category to send forward to the state-wide Governor's Awards committee which makes the final selection of in each category. The presentation is generally held during Virginia Public Service Week.

Like other state agencies, VCU nominates university employees for this award when the Governor's Office sends out a request for nominations.  There have been years in the past in which the Governor's Office has not taken nominations. Submission of VCU nominations is dependent upon whether or not the Governor's Office sends out this request.
